NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- Hoosiers set up stands across Hamilton County on Saturday to support a young girl shot by one of her classmates at a Noblesville middle school more than a week ago.

Ella Whistler is still recovering at Riley Hospital for Children but her family says she is “improving.” Her teacher, Jason Seaman, was also shot multiple times while tackling the young gunman but was released from the hospital the next day.

Saturday, WFMS Radio sponsored an event supporting residents to set up lemonade stands in support of Ella and her family.

More than 50 stands were set up across central Indiana throughout the day with many reporting generous donations from their visitors.

Tracy Reese, a family friend of the Whistler’s was helping out at the one set up at Tractor Supply Company in Noblesville with WFSM and says the family is focusing on Ella and how to prevent anything like this from happening again.

"It's a process and we keep them in our prayers and they keep going each day and i know they just want to focus on her getting better and focus on how to get our schools safer and not let this happen to anybody else."

The school still has a fund set up for both the Whistler and Seaman families if you would like to donate.

Donations can be sent to:
