INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Animal Care Services is once again pleading for help to clear some of their cages before they are forced to make “difficult decisions.”
It may seem like a monthly plea, but shelter officials say they are so far beyond capacity that they have absolutely no more room to take in animals – even though they continue to come in daily.
To help find homes for the dogs and cats they currently have, the adoption fee has been lowered to just $5 through the end of October.
“We are completely at capacity,” said Kristen Lee, IACS Public Information Officer. “Right now, our staff is doing everything they can to get animals out. We have volunteers every day. We’re trying to get people in through the doors and get these dogs out.”
Each adoption includes a microchip, vaccines, spay/neuter services and FIV/feline leukemia testing.
“We are asking our community partners near and far to embrace Indianapolis's city shelter, and give our animals the voice they deserve,” said Deputy Director, Katie Trennepohl. “Help us tell their stories, find them homes, and take action in the prevention and education of pet homelessness in our city. Every animal adopted, fostered, or rescued equals two lives saved: the ones leaving the shelter and the ones coming into the shelter, hoping for a second chance.”
