INDIANAPOLIS -- As football players around the state prepare take to the field Friday night, The Indiana High School Athletic Association is staying mum about national anthem protests.
NFL players and owners continue to peacefully protest by taking a knee or linking arms.
When schools have asked Commissioner Cox about high school players who take a knee during the anthem, he has said that the IHSAA does not have a response to how athletes behave while the song is played.
With respect to conduct and authority, Cox does say IHSAA's bylaws allow school principals "to enforce such accepted behaviors."
“It is the sincere desire of the IHSAA that all participants at an education based athletic event demonstrate proper respect and attention during the presentation of our National Anthem while respecting the rights of individual freedoms of expression," said Cox.
