INDIANAPOLIS -- It was 25 years ago Friday that Officer Teresa Hawkins was killed while on patrol.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Officer Hawkins was killed while responding lights and sirens to a call when she was hit by a drunk driver near 36th Street and Emerson Avenue.
She was 28 years old when she was killed. Hawkins is the only female IMPD officer to be killed in the line of duty.
Officers today say that Hawkins was an inspiration to them.
