INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metro Police Department officers working in the east district on Thursday rescued and fed a pup that had been abandoned.
IMPD Officer Stacy Riojas found the pup, shivering and hungry, at the corner of East 10th and LaSalle streets around lunchtime. Neighbors told Officer Riojas that the pup had apparently been abandoned and they had never seen it in the area before.
After leashing the pup to make sure he didn't run into traffic, Riojas got him some treats out of the trunk of her cruiser while she called Animal Control for help.
Her partner, Officer Roman Williams-Ervin also showed up and shared a slice of his pizza from his own lunch with the cold and hungry pup.
Officers with Indianapolis Animal Care Services later showed up and took the pup to the shelter so he could get warm and some much-needed food.
Police want to remind residents that Marion County has an ordinance that requires pet owners to bring their pets inside if the temperature falls below 20 degrees or if a wind chill advisory has been issued.
