IMS honors late Jim Nabors with Lights at the Brickyard display

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is honoring the late Jim Nabors with a special display at the 2017 Lights at the Brickyard. 

Nabors, best known for his role as Gomer Pyle on "The Andy Griffith Show" was also known for his numerous performances of "Back Home Again in Indiana" at the Indianapolis 500.

He first performed the song during the 56th running of the Indianapolis 500 in 1972, that started a tradition that lasted 42 years and 36 Indianapolis 500s.

Nabors died at his Hawai home on November 30. He was 87.
