Indiana state lawmaker seriously injured in motorcycle crash in northern Michigan

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- Indiana State Representative Tim Brown (R-Crawfordsville) was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash in northern Michigan Wednesday morning. 

Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) issued a statement Wednesday afternoon saying Brown was traveling by motorcycle with State Representative Mike Speedy when he struck an SUV that pulled out in front of them. Speedy was able to avoid the vehicle and was not hurt. 

Bosma said Brown's condition was not being released. 

"Tim is an invaluable member of our leadership team, a dedicated public servant and one of my most cherished friends. Our prayers are with him, his family and Rep. Speedy," said Bosma. 

Rep. Brown is among the higher ranking Republican House members and has been chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, the most powerful committee in the legislature, since the 2013 legislative session. Brown is a retired doctor who has represented House District 41, which includes parts of Boone, Tippecanoe and Montgomery counties, since 1994. 

Speedy has represented House District 90 since 2010 and was a member of the Indianapolis City-County Council from 2003 to 2010. 

Several Indiana lawmakers issued statements offering their prayers and thoughts to Brown's family.
