INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indiana State Police trooper has been fired after an investigation concluded that he committed "conduct unbecoming an employee."

Matthew Simmons was terminated from the Indiana State Police on September 4.

In a letter sent to the Indiana Prosecuting Attorney's Council on September 18, ISP Internal Investigations stated that the investigation that led to his termination "included concerns with Simmons' truthfulness and veracity."

According to the agency's Finding and Order documentation filed September 4, Simmons is accused of discussing "the details of a child molest with a child molest victim after he had been asked to distance himself from the investigation" sometime between November and December 2016.

Simmons is also accused of being "engaged in a relationship with a 14-year-old child molest victim that resulted in a complaint of an inappropriate relationship between him and the juvenile female" and an investigation by DCS.

The Finding and Order documentation also says Simmons gave 'false information to a fellow officer" in numerous instances regarding those accusations including falsely suggesting his phone had completed a "factory reset" by itself, and that "he did not touch the female juvenile's face with his thumbs after discussing with her that thumbs reminded her of a penis."

The allegations were referred to the Bartholomew County Prosecutor's Office which declined to file criminal charges. During his hearing, Simmons denied the accusations.

Simmons was given 15 days to file an appeal after the Finding and Order documentation was filed.
