INDIANAPOLIS — For the fourth year in a row, Indianapolis has seen a record-number of criminal murders.
The city's last homicide of 2018 - a man shot and killed inside a stolen tow truck New Years Eve morning - put the final number at 159 criminal homicides for the year breaking last year's record of 157 criminal homicides by two murders.
But even though we've broken another homicide record, crime in Indianapolis is down overall for the year.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials say the murders in the city have been committed mostly by people involved in risky behavior, which matches crime analysis by Call 6 Investigates.
Indianapolis has seen a four-year streak of rising homicides, first breaking the record of 143 set in 1996 three years ago when 144 people were murdered. That record was again broken in 2016 when 149 people were murdered and in 2017 when 157 people were murdered in the city of Indianapolis.
