INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana Department of Transportation has released its new proposal for repairing the North Split where Interstates 65 and 70 meet.
INDOT says more than 180,000 vehicles crisscross the North Split coming and going from the Circle City each day.
The proposed plan would improve bridge and pavement conditions but will not add through lanes to the North Split.
"This better benefits commuters to the North Split," said INDOT spokesperson Scott Manning. "There will be far fewer weave patterns and points of congestion - much safer with rehabilitating 32 aging bridges - bridges will be safe and smoother for generations to come."
The plan would come with an estimated price tag of between $225-275 million.
The suggested repairs include replacing bridges and pavement and reconfiguring ramps. It also includes repairs on the west leg of the interchange to eliminate bottlenecks.
The project is not slated to begin until 2020.
INDOT will host an open house on Wednesday, October 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Arsenal Tech High School.
