Indy Achieves will provide scholarships, seeks to expand education to middle class

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- A new program will help people in Marion County further their education.

The “Indy Achieves” initiative includes a scholarship that guarantees free tuition, books and fees for every Marion County 21st Century Scholar starting in 2019.

The program is a result of a task force that was created last year to come up with recommendations on how to improve access to post-secondary educational opportunities.

While announcing the program on Tuesday, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett talked about the importance of education.

“Indy Achieves is our commitment to removing barriers and providing a pathway for a healthy and robust expansion of our middle class,” said Hogsett.
