INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Animal Care Services is in desperate need of help to clear some of their cages as the number of animals they are taking in has far exceeded the space they have available.

Katie Trennepohl says the shelter has set up temporary cages in the hallway, but they just don't have any more space.

"We've pretty much tapped out all of our resources between our rescue partners and our foster homes," said Trennepohl.

She says they currently have around 1,000 animals at the shelter but they only have the capacity to hold about 600. And the shelter continues to receive dozens of drop-offs each day.

"Definitely with our foster homes they've saved a lot of lives already but we really need more help," said Trennepohl.

To help these loving animals find homes and making more room the shelter is free adoptions with a donation of $10 worth of supplies.

If you're not in a position to adopt an animal, there are several other ways you can still help. IACS is also in need of fosters to help free up kennel space for new animals and volunteers to walk dogs, feed them and help clean up the shelter.
