INDIANAPOLIS -- A center that helps support homeless youth is getting a boost from a $20,000 grant from the faith and action project, and they’re hoping to use that money to show the community that homeless doesn’t have to mean hopeless.

Outreach Inc. has already helped roughly 600 people between the ages of 14 and 24 this year.

Elijahwon Brookins, 23, who has been living at the Wheeler Mission, says he sometimes comes to the homeless youth center for his meals.

Brookins says he visits CSI Plasma twice each week to sell his blood, which means he lives on $80 per week as he tries to get his life back on track. He says Outreach Inc. has been his salvation during these past few months.

“Without me coming here I can honestly say I’d probably be somewhere on the street doing drugs,” said Brookins. “Doing nothing with my life.”

Outreach Inc. operates on a $1.7 million budget, over half of which comes from donations. The rest comes from churches, corporate sponsorships and government grants.
