INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man arrested Tuesday evening was likely the first person to be charged with driving while intoxicated while operating a motorized scooter.
According to the police report, the 21-year-old man was driving a Lime Scooter when he failed to stop at a red light in front of an on-duty Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer and almost caused the officer to crash.
The incident happened near the intersection of E. Washington Street and N. Pennsylvania Street.
The man was taken into custody and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
IMPD PIO Michael Hewitt says they believe Tuesday's arrest was the first of its kind in the city since the motorized scooters began taking over the downtown area in mid-2018.
