INDIANAPOLIS — IndyHumane will be hosting a one-day emergency pop up shop to give free pet food to furloughed employees affected by the government shutdown.
The pop up shop will be hosted by IndyHuamane's Rescue Relief Program and will offer free dog and cat food to government employees who are affected by the longest government shutdown in history.
The program will be held on January 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at IndyHumane's Animal Welfare Center, 456 North Holmes Avenue.

Only federal employees with a valid federal government badge/ID will be allowed into the pop up shop to get free pet food.
“Shutdowns affect more than a government employee’s day-to-day routine,” said David Horth, CEO of IndyHumane. “In many instances it impacts their ability to provide for their family. Pets are just as much a part of those families, and they need to be taken care of. We are happy to help keep those animals fed, safe and healthy.”
The IndyHumane Rescue Relief Program "rescues" bags of pet food and supplies from local pet supply companies that would otherwise be thrown in the trash and redistributes them to animal welfare organizations. In 2017, the organization rescued over 430,000 pounds of food that was donated to shelters and rescues across the Midwest.
