INDIANAPOLIS -- If you’re looking for a fun place to be this New Year’s Eve, the city of Indianapolis has you covered.
More than 40,000 people are expected to once-again ascend on downtown Indianapolis for the city's fourth annual New Year’s Eve celebration on December 31. The free, community-wide party will still be on Georgia Street – but it’s moving down the road this year because of construction.
The event will be held at Georgia Street and Meridian Street instead of Georgia Street and Pennsylvania Street like the previous three years and will run from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
The event will include live music, a light show, dancing in the streets, food and drink, fireworks and a truly Indy midnight extravaganza.
In a celebration that is truly “Indy-fied,” the city will use an IndyCar, hoisted high above the crowd, that will descend to mark the turning of the new year at midnight.
Entertainment will be provided by local DJs DJ GNO, DJ Hugh Jeffner and DJ Slater Hogan.
“Now in our fourth year, we believe this great civic event is here to stay and we’re excited to bring thousands of residents and visitors back to Georgia Street, but this year using Meridian Street and the Soldiers and Sailors Monument as the stage backdrop,” said Sherry Seiwert, president of Downtown Indy, Inc. “Cities across the U.S. have their own New Year’s celebrations so it makes perfect sense that we host our own one-of-a-kind tradition.”
