INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Public Schools Superintendent Lewis Ferebee is a finalist to lead the Los Angeles School District.
The Indianapolis Public School Board President confirmed on Monday that Ferebee is a contender for the position.
The Los Angeles Times reports that Ferebee is not the top finalist but is one of three being actively considered for the job.

Ferebee's contract with Indianapolis Public Schools runs through June 30, 2019. An extension was approved by the board in February 2016, but under the terms listed in his original contract he can resign or retire at any time.
The Los Angeles Times reports that former investment banker Austin Beutner is the lead contender for the position with the Los Angeles school district, but Ferebee and former Baltimore Superintendent Andres Alonso, who teaches at Harvard, are both apparent finalists as well.
It is unclear when the Los Angeles school district is expected to make a decision.
