INDIANAPOLIS -- The shooting that started a violent 26 hours in Indianapolis happened right in front of an Indianapolis elementary school and the man who caught it on video says it came out of nowhere.

Terrell says he was sitting at home Monday evening when he heard the ruckus start in the street in front of his home near Tindley Summit Academy.

When he went to the door he saw multiple vehicles parked in the road and more than a dozen people - mostly young girls - arguing in the streets.

"I was sitting in my living room and I heard a big argument," said Terrell. "A guy comes up and starts shooting... he let out about five shots and it was basically mayhem after that."

Police say two women in their early twenties were shot during the altercation. Both of them were treated at the hospital but are expected to be okay.

The video, captured on Terrell's phone, shows a fight break out and then someone wearing black walks up and points a gun into the group, firing multiple shots. Terrell says return shots were fired and then everyone scattered.

It only lasted about a minute, according to Terrell.

"Everybody that was in the fight drove over to this street and drove away."

Terrell says he's lived across from Tindley Academy for the past 14 years, but violence like this isn't something he's used to seeing - and there's usually a park full of kids just feet away from where the shooting took place.

"It's a pretty quiet street, there's a school right across the street so I never thought anything would happen, but you never know," said Terrell. "It could have been more people shot and more people killed."
