INDIANAPOLIS -- Circle Centre Mall owner Simon Properties confirms Sunday is the last day of operation for its only remaining anchor tenant, Carson’s department store.

Earlier this month Carson’s parent company, Bon-Ton, announced it was selling its assets and remaining stores to groups and investors that plan to liquidate the company, which owns several department store brands across the country.

At the start of this year, Bon-Ton had more than 260 stores, many with the Carson’s name.

All are expected to close by the end of summer.

At least two Carson’s stores in Indiana close Sunday, including Circle Centre and another in Columbus.

Simon Properties, which owns Circle Centre and several malls across the country, says there is no announcement yet on what will go into the empty Carson’s space.

Meanwhile a multi-million dollar renovation of the downtown mall, the first in its 25-year history, has already started.

The top to bottom renovation includes the Artsgarden, garages, food court and all other spaces.

Several new restaurants and businesses have been announced both for the food court and at street level.
