INDIANAPOLIS -- At Halloween, kids often get a lot of candy -- too much candy to eat before it goes bad. A local dentist office is offering to take some of that extra candy off your hands for a good cause.
At Kool Smiles, "Operation Troop Treats" is underway, encouraging kids to donate their candy to then be given to U.S. troops.
Any child that brings at least 25 pieces of candy will get a toy.
All donated candy will then be sent in care packages to U.S. service members stationed overseas via Operation Gratitude, said Tracie Ellinger, the office manager for Kool Smiles.
"It's just a really good way for us to appreciate the troops and what they're doing for us," Ellinger said. "The kids and the families are giving back."
This is the sixth year Kool Smiles has coordinated "Operation Troop Treats." It runs through Nov. 4. Drop off candy at either Kool Smiles location -- at 53rd Street and Keystone Avenue or 3658 S East St.
