INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis homeowner is warning others after he says he believes a woman was pretending to be an Amazon delivery person to steal his packages.
James Burden says he was working on the side of his yard when a woman walked up to his fence and tried to get through it. When he approached her, she told him she was with Amazon and wanted to verify that she delivered the correct packages.
“I leaned over, picked them up and said, ‘correct address, thanks!’ That’s when she proceeded to leave,” said Burden.
Burden lives in the Old Northside Neighborhood near 15th Street and Broadway Street and says over the past year, he’s had several packages stolen from his front porch, which is why he believes this woman may have been trying to steal from him as well.
“The type of car the person was driving would not fit for any of the Amazon delivery vans,” said Burden. “I was out here when the postman delivered the packages, so I knew it wasn’t a true situation.”
Amazon says they are looking into the situation, but they were not able to verify whether or not the woman was actually an employee or someone that delivers their packages.
Amazon says their “Amazon Flex” allows people to sign up to deliver packages for the company, which means they may not be driving one of the normal Amazon delivery vans.
Burden says his packages were not originally delivered by Amazon.
Indianapolis police recommend making sure someone is home when you are planning to have a package delivered or having them delivered to a trusted neighbor or your place of employment.
