INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Public Schools want to expand the pilot program started this year that allows some IPS students to ride an IndyGo bus to school instead of a school bus.
Superintendent Dr. Lewis Ferebee is recommending the district expand the option to students at Arsenal Tech High School.
For the month of May, students at Shortridge High School have been offered free passes to take the IndyGo bus to and from school as they test out the program.
Shortridge High School students took more than 600 trips on the IndyGo bus the first two weeks of the program.
A survey conducted among those students found that 80 percent of them felt "somewhat safe, safe, or very safe" during their ride.
