INDIANAPOLIS -- After much controversy -- and a lawsuit -- the roundabouts on 96th Street will be built, after all.
A deal between Indianapolis and Carmel was approved 14-10 Monday night, making way for three roundabouts to be built on 96th Street.
The dispute goes back for months, as Indianapolis City-County Council member Christine Scales (D-3) fought Carmel on four roundabouts, after she had already approved two of them.
Last month, officials from the two cities came to a tentative agreement to settle on the roundabouts at the intersections of 96th Street and Hazel Dell Parkway, Gray Road and Delegates Row, as long as the city agrees to repair any Indianapolis streets damaged as a result of the construction.
Carmel will also pick up the tab for most of the work and maintenance.
