INDIANAPOLIS -- People living on Indianapolis' northeast side are tired of drivers speeding through their neighborhood, so they are taking matters into their own hands.
The Devonshire Civic Association posted 100 yellow signs over the weekend that urge drivers to slow down.
The signs are in front yards in the 6400 block of Brokenhurst Road and one block over in the 6400 block of Graham Road.
Nicole Todd likes to push her 11-month-old daughter Olivia in her stroller along those streets.
"As a parent, I'm really concerned about the speeding on this road. She will eventually be out riding her bike as well. As a neighborhood we need to be concerned about," said Todd, Devonshire Civic Association.
Motorists are cutting through the Devonshire III and VI subdivisions to get to Binford Boulevard and Fall Creek.
"Your main goal is that no one get hurt? No... as you listen, you hear them come by. We don't want anyone to get hurt," said Barbara Mohr, Devonshire Civic Association.
Now that the signs have been are in place, what does the neighborhood want to see next?
"We're looking for long-term solutions like speed bumps, street modifications like sidewalks, etc. But those are all long-term solutions that take a while to get through the city process, to get the neighbors to agree to things like that," said Ron Taylor, Devonshire Civic Association President.
The signs are expected to be posted for two weeks as a wakeup call while the neighborhood association works on permanent measures.
The Devonshire Civic Association will begin circulating a petition Tuesday to make those speed bumps happen.
