Person dies after assault on Indy's NE-side

INDIANAPOLIS -- A person was killed on Indy's northeast side Friday morning.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detective Aaron Hamer said the victim was assaulted in the 3500 block of N. Shadeland Avenue around 6 a.m. 

The victim died at the hospital.

The IMPD Homicide Unit has been called out to investigate. The exact nature of the assault has not yet been released. 

It's the 26th homicide of 2018, according to data gathered by RTV6's Crime Beat Reporter Jordan Fischer.
