INDIANAPOLIS -- A woman was shot during an attempted robbery after meeting a man she was selling an item to from the OfferUp app.
The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Thornton’s gas station at West 10th Street and North Lynhurst.
The victim told police that she was meeting a stranger at the gas station to sell them a necklace when she was shot. She then tried to drive away but crashed into a pump, knocking it over and causing a fire.
Police say the victim never left her vehicle and the shot hit her in the buttocks. She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Another person in the vehicle with her was not injured.
Speedway police are reviewing surveillance and traffic cam video but have not yet released a description of the suspect or his vehicle.
Speedway police say if you are making transactions with a stranger to make sure you are doing it in a safe location. The Speedway Police Department parking lot is a designated safe sale location.
