INDIANAPOLIS – A man was killed in a shooting on the city’s northeast side Wednesday evening.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police said the shooting happened in the 5300 block of E. 40th Street shortly after 10:15 p.m. where they found a man in his 50s dead. 

The victim was later identified as John Echols, 51.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene.

Police are searching for a younger male wearing a hoodie. He was last seen leaving the scene in a gold Honda Civic. Officers did not say he was a suspect, but would like to speak with him.
