INDIANAPOLIS -- People living in one Indianapolis neighborhood are urging drivers to be safe after two hit-and-run incidents in the past week.

Mahasin and Alex Martinson are now without a vehicle after both of their cars were totaled by a hit-and-run driver early Sunday morning in their Meridian-Kessler neighborhood.

“They hit his car so hard that it went from where it was parked over there onto the sidewalk and into the back of my car, shattering my car,” said Mahasin.

The couple says they were woken early Sunday morning by police officers knocking their door to tell them that their vehicles were hit.

“It’s so terrifying that this can happen at any given moment and you wake up and your life is just completely different,” said Alex.

Based on pieces of the damaged vehicle that were left behind, police were able to determine that it was likely a white sedan with substantial damage to the front passenger side.

So far, no suspect has been identified.

Police say this is the second hit-and-run in the Meridian-Kessler area after a woman was severely injured when a truck hit her on her bike last week.

That driver also fled the scene and has not been located.

Neighbors are now urging drivers to slow down and think before getting behind the wheel and police are asking anyone living nearby to be a good witness.

If you see a hit-and-run, try to get a good description of the vehicle, plate and direction it was heading.

Both hit-and-run incidents remain under investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
