INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department have released the mugshot for an Indianapolis pet owner accused of throwing a dog in a dumpster after it froze to death.
The city has cited Gordon Turentine, 62, with a care and treatment violation as well as improper custody and disposition of dead animals.
Each ordinance violation dictates a minimum fine of $25 for the first offense, and $200 for the second offense.
Marion County prosecutors also filed a misdemeanor animal cruelty criminal charge against Turentine.
An initial hearing is scheduled for Monday, February 11 at 12:30 pm.
Police say Turentine threw a dog in the dumpster after it froze to death.
Volunteers with Friends of Indianapolis Dogs Outside (FIDO), responded to the 2400 block of 10th Street to check the welfare of a dog that was left outside by its owner.
When they arrived, the volunteers found the dog dead in a dumpster behind the location.
Turentine admitted to police that the dog, Remy, was his and that he had owned her for 10 years.

Turentine told police that he found Remy frozen the morning of January 30 and then placed her in the dumpster.
He was processed and released on his own recognizance.
According to the original post by IACS, the dog had spent its final days and nights freezing to the ground of its doghouse.
