INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The I-465 closures are slowly coming to an end, and part of the westbound lanes will reopen Thursday night - four days ahead of schedule!

The second half of the major interstate closure has the westbound lanes of I-465 on the southwest side of the city closed while crews work to finish the $10.1 million road project.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says they will partially reopen the westbound lanes of I-465 on the southwest side. Westbound I-465 will reopen between SR 37/Harding Street (exit 4) and I-70 (exit 9).

Westbound I-465 will remain closed between I-65 and SR 37 as crews continue rehabilitation work on that segment.

The first half of the project finished two days early as well.

The Indiana Department of Transportation awarded contractor Reith-Riley to undertake this project.

Reith-Riley does have incentives to complete the project on time.

The project is expected to be fully completed by October 8, but if we're lucky it will be done early like the eastbound lane project was.

“Each hour that they’re done ahead of schedule, they’ll get 5000 dollars, an hour if they’re ahead of schedule," said INDOT spokesperson Lamar Holliday before the company began the eastbound construction. "If they’re behind schedule, there are $5,000 liquidated damages that will be assessed for every hour they’re not open past 5 a.m. on September 24th or October 8th."
