INDIANAPOLIS – An elderly man’s life was saved Monday thanks to the efforts of two Indiana State Police troopers and a United States Postal worker.
Carrier Glenn Bass was delivering mail in an east side neighborhood when he noticed an elderly man on his route hadn’t checked his box in several days.
Bass contacted trooper Aryaun Smith, who lived a few houses away.
Soon after Smith knocked on the door of the home, she noticed a broken window on the garage door and called Sgt. Josh Watson for help.
To check on the elderly man, the two went into the home and found him lying on the floor. Troopers believe he had been there for days after falling.
“We found the victim laying down on the floor, unable to move, barely conscious and saying that he thought he was gone – he thought he was dead,” said Smith. “He was in and out so he would talk to us for a few minutes, and then he wouldn’t talk to us at all. If it weren’t for him coming to me, I don’t think we would’ve found the victim in time.”
The man was taken to the hospital and continues to undergo treatment. His name was not released.
Both Smith and Watson were nominated by their supervisors for life saving awards.
