INDIANAPOLIS -- Cardinal Ritter High School has canceled classes for Friday after a student posted a threatening message on social media.
The school sent out a message to parents Thursday evening saying they were made aware of the message that included an image of a student holding a weapon, earlier that afternoon and had contacted law enforcement to investigate.
"While we are confident that the post was not intended to be a serious threat, we are not willing to take any chances when it comes to the safety and well-being of our student body and staff," the letter to parents read.
The message said the school would be closed on Friday so they could conduct a "full investigation with the assistance of law enforcement."
The school plans to provide families with an update on their findings and next steps on Sunday.

Families, Earlier this afternoon, we were made aware of a post that was shared on social media involving a student holding a weapon along with a threatening message. Law enforcement has already been contacted and is working with the school. While we are confident that this post was not intended to be a serious threat, we are not willing to take any chances when it comes to the safety and well-being of our student body and staff. In order to conduct a full investigation with the assistance of law enforcement, we have elected to cancel school for tomorrow, November, 9, 2018. Please feel free to call us tomorrow between 8:00am – 3:00pm if you have any questions, as all administrators will be present at the school.
