INDIANAPOLIS – With recent terror attacks in New York City that left eight people dead after a man drove a truck onto a bike path, organizers of Indianapolis’ Monumental Marathon plan to take extra precautions to keep attendees safe.
The marathon, set for Saturday, will attract thousands of runners and police want them to know safety will be a priority.
"Our homeland security is taking a look at those attacks and trying to see what we can do here in Indianapolis to prevent those attacks from occurring here,” said Indianapolis Police Major Richard Riddle.
More than 150 uniformed officers, radio operators and medical personnel will look for any suspicious activity during the event.
Chandler Ball said the event will be his first full marathon and he’s focused more on training.
"I'm not too worried about it, but I know it could be a possibility,” said Ball. "Honestly it doesn't really bother me a whole lot and I think I'm just going to do my own race. If something happens, it happens, but I have pretty good faith in the security around here. "
