INDIANAPOLIS -- Severe weather forced police to evacuate thousands of people who were downtown for the Indy Pride Festival on Saturday, but the party didn't stop for long.
Nearly 30,000 guests were evacuated at Military Park for roughly an hour after the sirens went off around 1 p.m.
Executive Directory of Indy Pride Chris Handburg said at first, evacuations were optional, but after someone reported seeing a funnel cloud in Indianapolis, they became mandatory.

"We walk out to go into pride, and as soon as we get outside, all of the wind started coming out, and it was like a little pride tornado," Adriane Byers said. "Grass was in my beer, and we couldn't stand up straight so we had to walk back in. As soon as we walked into Friday's, We heard that the festival was being evacuated, so it was just safest for us to stay inside."
Handburg said after the evacuation was lifted - even more people showed up at Military Park to celebrate.
