INDIANAPOLIS — Is there anything more important than student body unity at a high school?
Shortridge High School created a unity council to help Broad Ripple students who transferred there, make a successful transition.
Out of 950 students in the building, 325 come from Broad Ripple. Five students spearheaded the unity council.
Today, they were recognized for their efforts with a Butler University Youth Service Team Award.
Today at the ceremony, Madeline Anderson said all ideas will be heard.
"No matter where you are from. No matter your culture. No matter who you are - your idea will be heard," Anderson said. "That's our biggest success. Not every school allows every student's voice to be heard. We take pride in that. Everyone is included."
Indianapolis Public Schools superintendent, Aleesia Johnson, attended the award ceremony. The superintendent encouraged the unity council to continue pursuing their goals.
