INDIANAPOLIS -- The Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township is celebrating a new grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

The Teacher and School Leader Incentive Program grant supports the district’s Empowering Educators to Excel through the Insight Education Program. That’s a partnership that connects 47 schools across four states. They’ll work together to improve the entire network.

Through this grant, MSD of Decatur Township will receive about $4 million a year for the next three years.

With this money, the school district will work to find and retain the best educators and principals. Those employees will take part in professional training and peer coaching to improve their abilities and advance their professional development.

It’s no secret: Strong teachers help develop successful students.

“As we know, schools are the hub of communities and by building stronger schools we will strengthen the Decatur Township community,” said Director of Secondary Education Dr. Danny Mendez.

This grant will support four other districts as well. They’re located in Delaware, Texas and South Carolina.

On a similar note, MSD of Decatur Township recently implemented the K-12 Computer Science Pathway Program. That created an avenue for educators to collaborate with educators in other school districts.
