SPEEDWAY, Ind. -- Parks in the Town of Speedway are now smoke-free.

The Speedway Town Council approved an ordinance earlier this week that took effect immediately.

Smoking is banned within 50 feet of parks or public trails.

If you violate the ban, you could be fined $20 and lose your park privileges.

However, Town Manager Jacob Blasdel says the goal isn't to fine anyone, but rather to get people to stop smoking around visitors and children using parks.

Speedway has two parks - Leonard Park on 15th Street and Meadowood Park on Meadowood Drive.
