INDIANAPOLIS — An eLearning class turned into an emergency situation Thursday morning on the west side when a 10-year-old student realized his house was on fire.
Saint Anthony Catholic School physical education teacher Kenneth Walker had agreed to fill in for a fellow teacher for a few minutes when one of his students told Walker he needed to go because his house was on fire. The boy showed Weaver the fire by pointing his computer's camera at it, Wayne Township Fire Department Division Chief Courtney Rice said in a news release.
Weaver told the boy to make sure everybody was out of the house and call 911 to report the fire, Rice said. Weaver also dialed 911 to make sure the call was made.
Crews arrived at the house in the 300 block of Woodrow Avenue at 11:53 a.m., and the fire was marked under control at 11:57 a.m., according to Rice.
Medics evaluated two children at the scene, and Rice said they were released to their parents. No injuries were reported. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
