INDIANAPOLIS -- There are only four rooms in The Good House in downtown Indianapolis, but 90 guests stayed there just last month.
Rebecca Armbruster founded The Good House to help people who come to Indianapolis for hospital visits a place to stay where they don’t have to worry about money.
Patients are referred by social workers at IU Health’s Simon Cancer Center – specifically ones receiving bone marrow transplants.
Jose and Mari Martinez come to Indianapolis once a week so Jose can take part in a clinical trial for his large tumor. They say having a place like The Good House has been a blessing.
“Thankful,” said Mari. “For The Good House and all the people we have met along the way.”
Armbruster says she founded The Good House to help people like Jose and Mari.
“They don’t talk about the money we save them,” said Armbruster. “They talk about how much it means to them that our community has come together.”
With only four rooms available, the waiting lists get long and families have to be turned away daily, but Armbruster said she hopes to grow The Good House in the future and build a place with 15 – 25 rooms so they can help more families in need.
