If you live in Richmond or find yourself heading through the area, a shift in a major roadway could impact your commute or travels for the remainder of the fall season.
Southbound traffic on U.S. 27 (or 8th Street) will be shifted to the east side of the road, between North A Street and South E Street, starting Wednesday.
At the same time, between South E Street and South G Street, that southbound traffic on U.S. 27 (or 8th Street) will be shifted right, to the west side of the road.
And even more, traffic will be shifted back left to the east half of the road between South G Street and South N Street.
One lane of traffic will remain open in all areas that are shifted during the construction process, but parking will be prohibited in most locations.
Again, these shifts begin Wednesday, with the hope to be complete by the end of fall.
The entire $23.9 million project is expected to be complete next year.
In addition to rebuilding the roadways, this project also includes new water mains, new drainage and modernized storm sewers, new ADA curb ramps and sidewalks, new traffic signals with wireless interconnectivity, and new traffic signs.
