INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Department of Public Works announced on Monday that all trash pickup will be canceled on Wednesday and Thursday.

All residential trash, heavy trash and recycling collection will be put off until the following week. Routes missed will receive double pickup on Feb. 6 and Feb. 7.

The dangerously low temperatures bring safety risks as air impacts the performance of trash trucks and frostbite can occur quickly with the DPW drivers.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill warning, effective from 10 p.m. Tuesday through 1 p.m. Thursday for all of central Indiana. Wind chills as low as -30 to -40 degrees are expected.
