INDIANAPOLIS – Less than 24 hours after an Army veteran’s truck was stolen, his girlfriend was robbed at knifepoint inside their home on the city’s north side.
Michael Lee said he was grabbing coffee from a Speedway gas station at 56th Street and Emerson Way when a man stole his pickup truck Thursday.
Using the address on the vehicle registration found inside the stolen truck, the thief was able to gain access into Lee’s home Friday morning. The garage door opener allowed the man inside the home where he held Lee’s girlfriend, Jessica, at knifepoint.
“He used the info in my car to find my home. Then to come in and stick my girlfriend up at knifepoint? I can't understand what would make a person so bold,” said Lee. “You got away with 20K in equipment and my truck. Why are you going to come in my home?”
Jessica said the man forced her into the bathroom while he robbed the house.
“I walked into the hallway and there's a man I don't know with a large kitchen knife he put into my stomach,” said Jessica. “He walked me backward into the bathroom and told me to stay there while he looted the house.”
She said while in the bathroom she could hear the man opening drawers. He also continued to ask her where jewelry, drugs and guns could be hiding.
She was able to escape through the bathroom window to call 911.
“I bailed out of the window and ran to the neighbor's house,” said Jessica. “As soon as I jumped the fence I was screaming ‘help, help call the police.’”
The man got away with jewelry, guns and other valuables, but left the key to the stolen truck behind. Police are still looking for the truck.
Lee said his red Ford F-150 had a generator and a welding rig on the back. It’s estimated at $30,000.
“I honestly thought that was the end of it,” he said. “For him to take everything, then come into my home and violate my girlfriend to the point that she's going to be traumatized now.”
