INDIANAPOLIS -- Police are searching for two armed men who robbed a low-cost animal clinic full of customers on Indianapolis' near east side Wednesday evening.
Employees at FACE say there were about 40 people waiting to pick up their animals when two masked men armed with guns entered the clinic in the 1500 block of Massachusetts Avenue around 5:40 p.m.
The men shouted threats at the staff and customers as they demanded money.
Jen Hancock, Interim Executive Director of FACE said there were about two dozen employees and volunteers working in the clinic as well. She said everyone was frightened but her staff was able to remain calm and keep everyone safe.
“We work every day to serve as a safety net in this community,” said Hancock. “It is certainly disheartening to have individuals try to stop us in our work.”
Hancock says some of the clients who were there during the robbery were so thankful to the staff for helping to protect them that they made donations to the clinic.
Sarah Reyes was inside during the robbery.
"I was pretty terrified. I was the first and hopefully last time I have a gun pointed at me," said Reyes. "Next thing you know, there were two men that came in started screaming for us to get down on the floor. They had guns and were pointing them at the floor at us.
She said the pair told the customers something she won't forget.
"If I see anybody on their phones I'm going to blow your brains out," said the wife and mother who noted she may start observing her surroundings more.
FACE provides affordable services for animals and relies on donations to make those services affordable for customers.
Hancock says they are now reviewing security footage with police to try and identify the suspects.
No descriptions or details have been released at this time.
The clinic will also be reviewing and updating their security plans for the future.
Anyone with information on the crime is urged to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
