Uber for your lawn: GreenPal launches in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS -- You probably know about apps like Uber or Lyft that put you in touch with a driver, but what about a service like that for your lawn?

GreenPal, a Nashville-based lawn care service, has officially come to Indianapolis.

The app puts you in touch with local lawn care companies through your smartphone.

How it works:

  • Post what services you need, and the size of your yard. A few local companies will bid on your property.
  • You pick the company you want, based on its price and reviews -- on the app.
  • When the company is done, it sends you a photo through the app, then you pay.

The co-owner of GreenPal said they take the time to interview every single vendor and look at reviews to make sure they're safe.

Brian Jones, the owner of Scenic Green, a lawn care company, said he's happy with the app.

"It's a nice marketing piece for small business owners," Jones said. "If you're hesitant, you can click on our profiles, you can call the vendor. It doesn't have to be all on technology. It can be person-to-person conversations."

Jones said he does all of his own marketing. He expects GreenPal to help him grow his business 15-20 percent.
