UINDY students frustrated with lack of parking

INDIANAPOLIS --University of Indianapolis students say they’re getting frustrated and feel unsafe because of the lack of parking spots available near their dorms.

Many students say they’ve had to create spots or park in an entirely different lot to get to class on time and they’ve been ticketed for parking in “undesignated” lots, but sometimes there’s nowhere else to park.

A new parking lot is set to open at the University of Indianapolis next month, but students say that isn’t soon enough.

Mike Fogle’s daughter is one of those students, and he’s concerned that the parking issue has become a safety hazard.

“She works at the Greenwood Mall and gets back to campus at 10-10:30 p.m. and has to walk five to ten minutes to her dorm room, it’s just not right,” said Fogle.

Officials at UINDY say the student population is growing every year and they’re constantly looking at ways to improve and add new parking for students.

The school also offers a shuttle service from the overflow lot to the dorms between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and police will escort students whenever they need it, 24-7.
