INDIANAPOLIS -- Police are looking for the person who stole a vehicle with two small children in the back seat.

The car - and the children - were located a short time later. The children were unharmed.

Police were called to the 2500 block of West Washington Street for a report of a stolen vehicle after 3 p.m. according to officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Police say the mother had left the car unattended with the keys in the ignition outside Ripe and Ready produce stand when an unknown person jumped inside and took off with it.

Police believe the person did not realize that there were kids inside the vehicle and ditched it a short time later in the 200 block of South Harris Street. That's when one of the children started honking the horn and attracted the attention of a nearby neighbor.

The mother had also left her phone inside the car, according to police, and the neighbor was able to direct police to the correct location to find the children and the car.

Both children were unharmed.

Police are still searching for at least one possible suspect. They have not released any information or description about that person at this time.
