Body recovered from White River on Indy's northwest side, death investigation underway

INDIANAPOLIS -- Water rescue crews recovered a body from the White River on Indianapolis' northwest side Thursday afternoon. 

Indianapolis Fire Department water rescue crews were called to the river near West 42nd Street and Michigan Road shortly after 4:30 p.m. after a kayaker reported what they believed to be a body in the water.

It took crews more than an hour to recover the body. The victim has not been identified and police have not said whether the person's death is being considered suspicious or how they believe they ended up in the water. 

The death remains under investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
