INDIANAPOLIS – One school in Central Indiana is asking for bike donations to help kids with a new program.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says kids are now spending more than seven hours in front of a screen each day.
At Wayne Preparatory Academy, teachers and staff are trying to change that. They want to help more kids learn how to ride a bike and help them get one.
Bob Boehman says he is working with the Indiana Interscholastic Cycling League to help teach kids how to ride a bike and compete. It can cost more than $100 per season for each kid.
"There is no bench, every kid time counts towards the team and just really work on improving themselves,” Boehman said.
But for some kids, the only way they can get a bike is to raise the money. Students and staff are asking for sponsors or bike donations to help compete.
"We have had money donations to purchase some of them, but also any bikes or gear that are collecting dust we can put to good use,” Boehman said.
If you would like to help donate, you can do so here.
