The family of Ben Davis teen killed in a car crash is making sure their daughter’s legacy lives on.
Savannah Bettis died in June 2015 after seeping carbon monoxide caused her boyfriend to crash.
Tuesday, the Bettis family donated $10,000 to the Wayne Township Education Foundation to start a perpetual scholarship of $500 a year.
“It's a senseless act that Savannah should not have passed away from in a vehicle a week before graduation,” said John Bettis, Savannah’s father. “We also want to protect the community and others from this happening to them."
The family raised money by selling bracelets and a memorial motorcycle ride.
John Bettis is also pushing Indiana to test all cars 10 years or older for carbon monoxide issues.
“We’re doing this in honor of Savannah because she would have had a bright future ahead of her,” said John Bettis.
