INDIANAPOLIS -- A woman is concerned her renewed driver's license could be in the wrong hands after a month of waiting on it to come in the mail.

A woman who wishes to remain anonymous out of fear of identity theft reached out to RTV6 after she has been trying to track down her renewed driver's license that she ordered more than a month ago.

The woman said she renewed her license at the Noblesville Bureau of Motor Vehicles branch at the end of January. The bureau told her it was in the mail on February 7, and that it takes "at least 14 days" to arrive. She has called the BMV several times since then to try and track down the license after it still did not arrive.

"Somewhere, someone has my driver's license with my picture, my signature, my home address, my drivers license number," the woman said.

We took her complaint to the BMV Monday night, connecting her to the bureau's chief communicator, and she is now working with them to secure her information and find the lost license, but the woman wants more.

"I would like some type of identity protection possibly. Mainly I would like for them to institute some kind of procedure where they track important documents that are mailed out."

The woman says the BMV will be able to access her personal records and tell whether her license was returned to them and shredded.

If you haven't gotten your license or ID within the stated two weeks waiting period, here's what you can do:

  • Reach out ot the BMV to confirm it's been sent in the mail.
  • Verify the address on record with the BMV is accurate and up to date.
  • Track the progress of your application through your BMV online account.
